Walk Through the Heart of Old Shanghai – Full-Day Tour

Join us for a fun and fascinating walking tour through the most historic parts of Shanghai. This is the best way to feel the real soul of the city.

We start at The Bund. This riverside walkway is one of Shanghai’s most famous spots. You’ll see grand old buildings from the time when the British and Americans controlled this part of the city. Across the river, the modern skyline shows how fast Shanghai has changed.

Next, we walk down Nanjing Road, one of the busiest shopping streets in China. It’s full of lights, people, and energy. We continue to People’s Square, the true center of the city. It used to be a horse racing track. Now it’s where locals gather, relax, and meet.

If it’s the weekend, we’ll visit the Marriage Market in People’s Park. Parents come here with signs to find a husband or wife for their children. It’s surprising, real, and full of character.

Then we take the metro to Old Town, also called Nanshi. This was the original Chinese part of the city. Here we’ll stop for lunch. You can choose between a famous dumpling restaurant (many say it’s the best in the world!) or a fun street food market with local snacks.

After lunch, we visit Yuyuan Garden (ticket: 40 yuan). It’s a peaceful place with beautiful ponds, rocks, and traditional buildings. Then we walk through the narrow streets of the old town, where life still moves at a slower pace.

Finally, we explore the French Concession. This area feels completely different. Wide streets, big trees, fancy old villas, and stylish shops. Today, it’s one of the trendiest parts of the city. We’ll visit Wukang Road, Shikumen houses, Fuxing Park, and Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s house. If you’re interested, we can also stop by the Propaganda Poster Museum—a cool look at Chinese history through old posters.

Why a walking tour?

Because the west side of Shanghai—Puxi—is full of stories. On foot, you can feel its layers of history, culture, and daily life. You will not pass it. You will be in it and have a real experience.  For two times we take the metro or use a Didi taxi. Best is to take the metro, because metro is part of life of people who live ins Shanghai.
